DEADLINE EXTENDED
**************************************************************
„Formation of Social Networks in Social Software Applications“
Dresden, Germany, 2006-10-05 or 06 at INFORMATIK 2006
**************************************************************
#Background and motivation
An
increasingly important resource for companies especially in an economic
sense is knowledge. In this context, knowledge workers play a key role.
The greater the importance of people for a company’s success, the
greater the importance of interaction based on social relations within
the company. Social networks describe these social relations. The
instrument Social Network Analysis (SNA) is used to visualise and
evaluate social relations in various contexts, for example information
exchange and business processes. Social relations are a fundamental
part of Social Software applications. These applications define and
promote relations between persons and groups. Applications of social
software include social sharing (e.g. Flickr), social collaboration
(e.g. Wikipedia), social bookmarking (e.g. del.icio.us), social
communication (e.g. Skype), and social networking (e.g. OpenBC). With
the application of Social Software the role of people becomes more
central in the company.
#Topics
The workshop serve as a
platform for communication, to exchange the latest research results,
and also to develop advanced visions for applying Social Software in
organisations. Furthermore the workshop will work to sensitize the
scientific community about the relevance of Social Network Analysis.
Currently, SNA is generally an American-dominated research topic.
Submissions may cover the following topics:
* Technification of Social Networks through Social Software;
* Application of wikis in virtual companies or projects (knowledge databases, communities of practice);
* Weblogs as an instrument for internal and external communication;
* Visualisation and analysis of social relationships in Social Software applications, e.g. openBC;
* Social Software for collaborative knowledge management in organisations;
* Support of group formation processes through social software;
* Applications and concepts for visualisation of experts in organisations;
* Influences of applying Social Software on organisational culture (or vice versa);
* Approaches to evaluate the effectiveness of Social Software applications.
Primary
statistical evaluations are very welcome. In addition, contributions
that do not necessarily comply with the above mentioned topics, but are
related to Social Network Analysis and/or Social Software will also be
considered.
#Description of target groups
The workshop
will address both scientists and practitioners who deal with the topic
of Social Network Analysis and its possible application for group
interaction. Focus will be placed on theoretical concepts as well as
practical solutions, ideally accompanied by case studies.
